The Academy of International Education Studies at Beijing Foreign Studies University is affiliated with the BFSU Graduate School of Education. It is a comprehensive research institution dedicated to frontier research in international education, policy consultation, and academic exchange. Guided by the principles of “serving national strategies, responding to university priorities, focusing on international frontiers, and promoting educational innovation,” the Academy draws on BFSU’s strengths in multilingual education, cross-cultural communication, and global engagement. It focuses on global education governance, comparative education, international comparison of education policies, and the cultivation of internationalized talent. The Academy undertakes major national, provincial, and ministerial research projects, produces high-quality research outcomes with academic influence and social value, and provides high-level think tank services for government departments, education authorities, and university decision-making.

The Academy continues to conduct systematic research and platform-building around key issues in international education. It organizes young faculty members, master’s students, and doctoral students to translate and compile materials from leading international journals in education, thereby promoting the introduction, dissemination, and transformation of cutting-edge international education research. In collaboration with the Chinese Secretariat of the China-Africa Consortium of Universities Exchange Mechanism, the Academy conducts sustained research on the education policies of major developed countries toward Africa, supporting China-Africa higher education cooperation and China’s educational opening-up. It also builds high-level dialogue platforms, including the “50-Person Roundtable Forum” jointly organized with institutions such as the Changjiang Education Research Institute. In addition, the Academy organizes seminars on American education to promote in-depth interaction among academic research, policy discussion, and practical experience.

Under the leadership of Professor Wang Dinghua, the Academy has established an open research team that brings together experts and scholars from within and outside BFSU, both in China and abroad, through part-time, guest, and visiting scholar appointments. Looking ahead, the Academy will continue to serve the broader development of the university and the Graduate School of Education, respond to national strategic needs and frontier issues in international education, and further enhance its capacities in academic research, policy consultation, and international exchange. It will strive to develop into an education research and think tank platform with distinctive BFSU characteristics and international influence.
